SFEAP is a environmental project funded by the
Environmental Justice Fund. The Action Plan aims to improve the woodlands
and network of paths in the South Falkirk area to create better access to the
countryside for local communities, groups, schools and individuals.
Improvement works are in the following areas during 2008:
Tamfourhill Wood
Hallglen
Summerford
Rough Castle
The Lionthorn Woood pictures below show the woods before and after the
improvements:
This work will lead to the upgrading of approximately 14km of paths, the installation of 27 new signs, 15 seats and 605 new hedgerows planted. Safety is important and this will mean 21 new self closing gates and approx 7.5km of boundary fences will also be erected.
The physical work was managed by Bell Ingram Consultants on behalf of the main partners Callendar Estates and Falkirk Council. Linked Work and Training Trust (LWTT) were contracted to encourage and support communities and groups to participate in the new project with training and information.
Several events and activities have already
taken place e.g. a Guided Winter Walk, meetings with community groups and
presentation to local school children. There was also a
Creative Arts Exhibition of work inspired by the SFEAP.
