Whats' New

Why should I bother
 with Continuing Professional Development (CPD)?

If you were to apply for your current job now, would you get it?
Are you sure that your skills and knowledge are up to date?
Are you making the most of every opportunity, giving your best and receiving the best possible reward for your efforts?
Are you ready for the next stage in your career? If you can answer 'Yes' to all of these questions, you are probably already involved in a CPD programme.  Congratulations!

But if you've answered 'No' take a look at LWTT's IMPACT's CPD Network

LINKED WORK AND TRAINING PROGRAMME

Programme Information

The Course and Qualification

The course if a three year programme leading to the award by the University of Glasgow of the Degree of Bachelor of Community Learning and Development.  At this stage funding has not been committed for the full three years but we are optimistic that this will be secured.  However annual exits have been built into the course.  This means that in the event of funding not being secured for the duration of the programme, students can leave the course with a recognised qualification which is transferable to other academic institutions.

After one year           Certificate in Higher Education            120 Credits
After two years         Diploma in Higher Education                240 Credits
After three years      Degree                                                             360 Credits

In addition the course is endorsed by the Community Education Validation and Endorsement Committee which qualifies graduates for relevant posts throughout Europe.

Entrance Requirements

There are no formal qualifications for entry to this programme.  Entrance is made on the basis of the candidate's ability to evidence their history of voluntary and/or paid community development practice.  An assessment of the candidate's ability to meet the academic demands of the course work will be made at interview.

Time Commitment

The time commitment runs to approximately 1.5 days per week.  If you are a full time worker this will of course mean that your time spend in your workplace will amount to the balance of 3.5 days per week.  The 1.5 days of training time is made up as follows:

Training Days               One full day per week
Structured Study        One group tutorial (2 hours) every second week
Private Study               2 hours every second week

An important component of the training model is encouraging students to think of work practice and study as two parts of a single whole learning experience.

The other time commitments are as follows:

Year 1                                                                Years 2 & 3
4 Training Blocks (1 full week each)       3 Training Blocks (1 full week each)
                                                                               1 Placement (Ten Full Weeks)

Placements

In years 2 & 3 each student is required to undertake a ten week placement in another organisation.  These placements are designed to provide students with an opportunity to develop their practice in a range of settings with a number of target groups.  Students will also be assessed on their developing competencies during these placements.
