Why should I bother
 with Continuing Professional Development (CPD)?

If you were to apply for your current job now, would you get it?
Are you sure that your skills and knowledge are up to date?
Are you making the most of every opportunity, giving your best and receiving the best possible reward for your efforts?
Are you ready for the next stage in your career? If you can answer 'Yes' to all of these questions, you are probably already involved in a CPD programme.  Congratulations!

But if you've answered 'No' take a look at LWTT's IMPACT's CPD Network

BME LINKED WORK AND TRAINING PROGRAMME

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this project?

Black and minority ethnic people are consistently under-represented in management and senior positions in most sectors of the economy.  The voluntary sector is no exception.  In addition there is an absence of research information about the discrimination experienced by black and minority ethnic people in the workplace.

As a result, the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations, in partnership with Linked Work & Training Trust, have developed an innovative project to adapt a local work-based training model to the specific needs of black and minority ethnic people.

Are there any entrance requirements?

We do not look for any formal educational qualifications.  Entry to the course is based on the evidence of the prospective students experience and commitment to learning and development.  Funding for the programme specifies that programme participants must be unqualified and currently employed in the voluntary sector.

Participants need to be 21 years old by the time they qualify as professional workers.  An upper age 'limit' would depend on the employer and terms and conditions of employment.  Because this is a work-based programme participants would obviously need to be in voluntary sector employment to undertake the programme.

What do we mean by "black and minority ethnic"?

The programme is using the Commission for Racial Equalities good practice ethnic monitoring categories.  These are based on the 2001 Census categories and are:

White Irish; Any Mixed Background; Asian, Asian Scottish or Asian British (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Chinese, any other Asian background); Black, Black Scottish, Black British (Caribbean, Africa, any other Black background); Other Ethnic Background.

What is the time commitment?

For the most part students will attend training one and a half days per week.  See Programme Information.

Is there a cost attached?

There are no participants fees.

Can I apply for the programme now?

No, the degree is a 3 year programme.
